In between, this is a club-and-theatre town — Rockstadt, Kruhnen, Reduta, Sala Patria — so the concerts are close-up, they sell out, and there is no arena show to fly in for. **The three dates most worth building a trip around are 14–16 August, 3–4 October and 31 October.** Everything below is dated and linked to its source. Check anything you're buying a flight for, because line-ups here move late. ## The three dates to plan a flight around **14–16 August** — Jazz & Blues in Piața Sfântul Ioan, three evenings of genuine international billing in a small square, and the last of the open-air season worth travelling for. **3–4 October** — the Brașov Running Festival, carrying a World Athletics Elite Label that is rare for a city this size and pulls a real international field. **31 October** — Halloween at Bran Castle, the one date all autumn that reliably sells out. Fourth place goes to **27 November**, when the Christmas market opens. That belongs to a different kind of trip, and the [winter guide](https://brasovaeroport.ro/en/travel/brasov-in-winter/) plans it better than this page can. ## The open-air run, and an actual Munich licence The **Râșnov Film and History Festival** runs **7–23 August**, and it does something that catches people out: it moves town halfway through. The Brașov dates are at Bastionul Țesătorilor from **9 to 13 August**; everything from **14 August** is up at Râșnov, in the citadel gardens and the old cinema. Book the wrong bed for the wrong week and you'll commute 17 km each evening. The **Brașov Jazz & Blues Festival**, **14–16 August**, sets up in Piața Sfântul Ioan with Walter Trout, Janiva Magness and the Alfredo Rodríguez Trio among the names. Side stages run at Coresi and out at the fortified church in Bod. Then **Oktoberfest Brașov**, **27 August to 6 September** on Strada Turnului by Parcul Tractorul. Two things worth knowing. It starts in August, despite the name — that's normal, Munich's does too. And this is the first edition run under an **official licence from the City of Munich**, which is not marketing filler: it's the difference between a beer tent and a knock-off with a Bavarian font. ## Brașov's autumn is a running calendar This is the thing no listings site will tell you, because it only shows up when you look at the whole season at once: **seven races in eleven weeks**. Brașov in autumn is a running town. The **European Masters Off-Road Running Championships** land in Râșnov **10–13 September**, alongside the public Râșnov Medieval Run — a vertical of about 3.5 km with 800 m of climb, a 12 km classic, and a 40 km long trail with 2,000 m of gain. Kids', dog and para races turn it from a spectator chore into a family weekend, and masters athletes are flying in from across Europe, fifteen minutes from the runway. The organisers list **Maraton Piatra Craiului** for **26–27 September** at Zărnești — 41 km around the ridge with 2,250 m of climb, on the terrain covered in the [hiking guide](https://brasovaeroport.ro/en/travel/hiking-around-brasov/). Treat that date as provisional. Then **3–4 October**. Late October brings a night trail on the **24th** and a half marathon from Piața Sfatului on the **25th**, and **14 November** is Crosul 15 Noiembrie, which commemorates the 1987 Brașov workers' revolt against the Ceaușescu regime — a civic occasion first and a race second. **If you're not running, race weekends are a reason to move your dates.** Old Town roads close, and the hotels that fill are exactly the ones you want. ![Rolling Carpathian ridges under low cloud, spruce forest broken up by patches of golden autumn beech and larch](https://brasovaeroport.ro/uploads/2026-05/heroes/brasov-events-and-festivals--autumn-slopes.jpg "Artem / Unsplash") ## There is no arena, and that changes what you book Brașov has no stadium and no arena. The largest indoor room is Kruhnen Musik Halle, and it is a hall. Below that: Lux Divina, Centrul Cultural Reduta, Sala Patria, Teatrul Sică Alexandrescu, Club Rockstadt. All theatre- and club-sized. The practical consequence is a decision: **buy the day a date is announced.** These rooms sell out and there is no second night. The payoff is the same smallness working for you. It is why **Mikhail Pletnev**, on **24 September**, plays what is billed as his first recital on a Romanian stage in a hall you can see the keyboard from — the Philharmonic's season opening at Sala Patria. It is why you can stand a few metres from Suffocation on **9 October**. The spread is wider than the city's size suggests — Romanian pop and hip-hop headliners, touring death metal, stand-up, and a Philharmonic season, often in the same week. Dates are in the list below. ## Halloween at Bran, and what you're actually buying **31 October at Bran Castle** is the one date here that reliably sells out, and it isn't one event — it's three, sold separately. Daytime tours run as normal. An evening tour goes in **18:00–20:00**, which is the only time all year you walk those rooms in the dark. The evening tour is the castle. The party is a tent with a bar in a field, and the castle is scenery — good scenery, but you are not inside it. Times, tickets and capacity come from the [official Bran Castle site](https://www.bran-castle.com/en/halloween-2026/); nothing else is a source of truth. Two practicalities decide whether this works. Bran is about 25 km from the airport and the last stretch is one road that jams solid on 31 October — **leave earlier than feels sensible**. What the castle actually is, and why the Dracula framing has nothing to do with it, is in the [Bran Castle guide](https://brasovaeroport.ro/en/travel/bran-castle-visitor-guide/). ## What isn't happening, whatever the search results say Three things people plan trips around and will not find this autumn. **Cerbul de Aur has not been held in Brașov since 2019**, and there is no 2026 edition. The Golden Stag ran in Piața Sfatului for decades, articles about it still rank well, and the way they're written implies a festival that still exists. It doesn't. If it's your reason for the trip, there is no trip to plan. **Rockstadt Extreme Fest is already over** — it ran 27–31 July 2026, before you started reading this. Worth knowing anyway: it has moved to **Ghimbav, the airport's own town**, after twelve editions at Râșnov, and it returns **26–30 July 2027** under the shortened name Rockstadt Fest. That's a note for next summer, not something you can act on now. **Nobody can tell you when Poiana Brașov opens for skiing.** It is snow-dependent and it has run late — the 2025/26 season was postponed through December and only opened on **2 January 2026**. Any page printing a December opening date is guessing. Then you're fine — this lists what's worth *travelling* for, not everything that's on. Rockstadt, Kruhnen and Reduta programme most weeks. Check the venue's own page for your week rather than an aggregator: Brașov dates are often announced four to six weeks out and the aggregators lag. ### Can I enter the races, or only watch? Most of them, yes. The Râșnov weekend and the October running festival both have short and family distances alongside the serious ones, and entry is normally open online. The 40 km long trail and the Piatra Craiului marathon are a different proposition — real mountain distance on the terrain in the [hiking guide](https://brasovaeroport.ro/en/travel/hiking-around-brasov/). Enter those only if you already race on that ground at home. ### How do I buy tickets from abroad? Almost everything sells through Romanian ticketing platforms. They generally take international cards, but some want a Romanian phone number for the confirmation SMS — buy on a laptop rather than in an app, and screenshot the confirmation. For Bran on 31 October, buy direct from the castle. ### Will there be something in Piața Sfatului on New Year's Eve? Almost certainly — the city has run an outdoor event most recent years — but the line-up is normally announced only in the second half of December, so there is nothing to book now. Plan the night around a restaurant table, which does need booking. ### Do I need a car for any of this? Inside the city, no — walk. For Râșnov and Zărnești, effectively yes unless you're taking an organised transfer; the evening bus service is thin.
