Arriving in Naples

Naples (NAP) is Italy's third-busiest airport and the gateway to the entire south — Pompeii, the Amalfi Coast, Sorrento, the Cilento. From Brasov the route is short (under three hours block) and lands you 7 km from a city centre that is in many ways closer in feel to Brasov's old quarter than Rome or Milan ever could be: walkable, dense, slightly chaotic in the right proportions.

Why this route

The GHV-Naples lift is leisure-heavy: the Romanian summer market for the Amalfi-Sorrento corridor is sizable, and Naples is the natural arrival point. Wizz operates it seasonally, usually April through October, three days a week peaking at four in July-August. There's also a quieter winter-shoulder pattern driven by Naples-resident Romanians heading home, but booking windows are tighter — the route is over-subscribed in both directions on Christmas-week flights.

Getting from the airport to Naples

Naples airport is unusually close to the city — bus 3S Alibus runs every 15 minutes to Piazza Garibaldi (Napoli Centrale) and onward to the port (Molo Beverello), 25-30 minutes, €5 from the machine. From Centrale, regional trains to Sorrento via the Circumvesuviana — slow, hot in summer, but cheap and the only direct option (fast trenitalia trains stop at Castellammare, leaving a connection). Pompeii is on the same line. For Amalfi proper, the SITA bus from Sorrento or Salerno is unavoidable — the road is single-lane and famously slow on weekends; budget half a day for the transfer. Avoid driving in central Naples; ZTL fines are automated and brutal.

Return-leg tips

Limoncello in proper Sorrento bottles, San Marzano tomatoes from a roadside stand, and the genuine ragù-jarred sauces from Eataly Napoli are the standard hauls. The airport's airside selection is mediocre and overpriced — buy in town. NAP security is faster than FCO or MXP but the gate areas are small and packed in summer; aim to clear security but don't rush to the gate, the bars in the central concourse are better than the gate-side ones. Two hours is plenty from check-in to gate even on a Saturday.
