Flights from Brasov to Nuremberg

Live schedule and status for the Brasov → Nuremberg route operated from Brasov-Ghimbav International Airport (GHV).

GHV NUE

Arriving in Nuremberg

Nuremberg (NUE) is Bavaria's second airport, 5 km north of a Franconian city that was Holy Roman Empire territory long before Bavaria was a unified state. The terminal is compact, the public transit link to the Altstadt is one of the best in Germany, and the city itself is one of the more underrated weekend-break destinations the GHV network reaches.

Why this route

The Brasov-Nuremberg link is part diaspora corridor (Romanian communities in Franconia and northern Bavaria), part Christmas-market season runner (NUE's Christkindl- markt is one of the world's most famous, December brings noticeable demand spike), and part onward- transit hub for travellers heading toward Czech Republic (Prague is 4 hours by train from Nuremberg) or Austria (Salzburg via the Mozartline). Wizz operates two or three days a week, with seasonal frequency lifts.

Getting from the airport to Nuremberg

U-Bahn line U2 runs from NUE airport directly to Hauptbahnhof in 12 minutes (€3.40, every 5-7 minutes, machines accept cards). It's one of the cleanest airport-to-centre links in the EU and a model for what Brasov-Ghimbav's connection to Brasov city should look like in the next decade. The Altstadt is walkable from Hauptbahnhof — the medieval walls, the Kaiserburg, the Albrecht Dürer house and the Hauptmarkt are all within a 20-minute radius. The Nazi Documentation Centre and party-rally grounds are a U-Bahn ride away in the south of the city; allow half a day if it's part of the trip. For onward travel, ICEs to Munich (60 minutes) and Frankfurt (110 minutes) depart hourly.

Return-leg tips

Franconian wine (the dry Frankenwein, sold in the distinctive Bocksbeutel flat-flask), Lebkuchen gingerbread (especially the Schmidt and Lambertz brands sold seasonally), and proper Nuremberg Rostbratwürste in vacuum packs are the route-back classics. The airport is small enough that 90 minutes from check-in to gate is enough — but the non- Schengen pier is a single corridor with few seats, so don't rush through security.
